“Maintaining Motivation”

Motivation is one of the hardest parts of maintaining a healthy life. This month’s meeting is a continuation of last month’s presentation about motivation by Dr. Geoff Williams. To prepare for the small group discussions, you will receive a questionnaire that will be for your use only; it will not be seen by anyone else and is just an aid for the small group discussions. The purpose will be to keep you on track to meet your goals concerning your health: diet, exercise, stress reduction and social support.

Join us for the potluck and then for discussion to share and learn from each other about staying heart healthy!

“Healing Through Writing for Your Heart”

Presenter: Anais Salibian

Anais will encourage us to use writing as a means to express ourselves and our experiences with illness, healing, wellness and both the challenges and joys of everyday living. Dealing with these feelings and emotions is a wonderful way to reduce stress, a key component in the Ornish program.

From the Writers and Books website: "Anais Salibian, M.A., has a private practice in therapeutic bodywork and has been teaching writing since 1989. She has published essays, memoirs, and opinion pieces in Ararat Quarterly, The Sun, Creative Woman, and local newspapers, and appears in the anthology Through the Kitchen Window. She is currently working on a novel. In 2004 she received the Writers & Books Teacher of Adults Award for the Creation and Appreciation of Literature."     www.wab.org/instructors/salibian.shtml

From the Rosen Method Open Center: "Besides her Rosen Method private practice, Anais teaches Healing Through Writing and leads Expressive Arts Process Groups. She says: "All my work creates a safe space for people to be who they really are." www.rosenmethodopencenter.com/who_we_are.shtml

“Slow Food:

It isn't about eating slowly!”

Michael's website is http://www.savorlife.com/index.htm

From www.slowfood.com

"Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organization that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. To do that, Slow Food brings together pleasure and responsibility, and makes them inseparable. Today, [Slow Food has] over 100,000 members in 132 countries."

A key lifestyle factor in the Heartbeats healthy life program is exercise. But it's not always easy to get outside or go to the gym. We will explore "Wii Fit" video game. It has over 40 different exercises divided into four categories: yoga, strength training, aerobics and balance games.
