Dr. Botelho is professor of family medicine and nursing at the University of Rochester. He has been a family physician for twenty-five years as well as author, researcher, trainer and motivator. He advises practitioners to use four key motivational principles to help patients change behaviors.

Wellness Development: Weight Loss
Speaker: Peggy Weston Byrd
Peggy is on the steering committee for Heartbeats and is the facilitator of HFL's Healthy Living Weight Loss Support Group. Beginning in 2002, Peggy used the Ornish program to lose eighty pounds in an effort to prevent heart disease that is part of her family history. Maintaining a healthy weight is a major part of healthy living, Yet overweight and obesity are major problems in relation to diabetes, heart and cardiovascular-related health concerns. We will explore the issue of weight loss in the context of the Heartbeats program of diet, exercise, meditation and social interaction.
Suggested reading includes "The Spectrum" by Dean Ornish and "Body Clutter" by Marla Cilley and Leanne Ely. Both are available ay www.amazon.com

6:00 p.m.This is a nice, relaxed event. All family and friends welcome! Rain or Shine! Weather permitting, we'll take a walk in the park after supper.
"Roadside" shelter, Ellison Park, Rochester, NY. Take Rt. 590 to Blossom Road exit. Ellison is on Blossom Road, east of Mercy High School.

[ ] Place setting, including dishes, knives/forks/spoons, and glassware. Tablecloths will be provided.
[ ] Beverages, ice
[ ] Veggie burgers and/or veggies to grill. No meat, please. A charcoal grill will be hot and ready for your use.
[ ] Bug spray
[ ] Folding chair – optional. The shelter has tables and benches. or, you may want to bring a cushion for the bench.
[ ] Ellison is a carry in-carry out park. Please be prepared to carry out your own refuse.
